The Galaxie’s temp and fuel gauges use a voltage regulator/reducer that drops 12V to 5.7V. When they fail, they send 12V straight through, which makes the gauges peg out and is almost certainly hard on them. Which is what happened on the way to work Friday. Replacement from autoparts store Saturday was bad-in-box (this one was only a year and a half old), new one should be here today.
“But Ramblin’”, you’d say. “Why aren’t you driving the Rover or the Benz to work?” Well, the Benz needs a vacuum pump, inspection, and tag renewal, and I’d need to pump up the carb on the Rover, so...

We’re chasing an intermittent electric fault on the 88, think it’s the ignition switch. Truck w
ill randomly die and start right back up.

I have a dead spot in the ignition switch on my 88; does that, but only when provoked.
More that I need to rebuild the carb again for its current running being sub-par - got crap in the jets, seemingly.

Do they make 12v gauges ?

Like, one to one replacements? Not that I’m aware of. The dash looks like this and the gauges turn “backwards”:
There are people who make full dash replacements, but “feh” to that.
As many of these as are garage queens, I don’t think people act like silicon failures after two hot summers outside are a problem - which they should, because it’s kind of unacceptable.

Joke’
s on you, it got swapped to a Rochester B before I even got it. The only incantation involved is a ‘60s Chevy-appropriate imitated spitting of tobacco.

Sounds like you need to order 2 replacements

Or possibly order a DC voltage reducer off Amazon for about a third what these cost, rig it with wires so it’s even easier to reach if failed
, and keep it on hand for next time instead of a “factory style” replacement, because eff the po.

That almost sounds so reasonable.

Check out the photo, and the armature holding up the DC-3. Beauty, says I. Forget the BRZ...

The frame has an elegance and understated simplicity to it. Matches the DC-3.

I like how it captures the takeoff path while it distributes the cantilevered load. As you said: elegant.
